Hitchhyke pairs riders with the first driver that accepts their ride request. The pairing process is designed to be efficient while considering driver and rider preferences.
Request Pool & Ride Types
Depending on the selected ride type, multiple drivers may qualify to receive a rider's request. These eligible drivers form what we call a Request Pool. The ride request is sent out in priority order to drivers in the pool.
This ensures that:
- Riders receive clear ETAs and upfront pricing, which may include third-party fees from your bank or card processors like Stripe.
- Drivers are matched with trips that align with their preferences.
Driver and rider preferences are also taken into account. For example, a driver using verification filters will only receive requests from verified riders.
How Rides Are Paired
Hitchhyke considers several factors when matching drivers and riders:
- Proximity: The distance between the rider’s and driver’s locations.
- Driver Preferences: Settings such as verification filters or payment method restrictions.
- Rider Preferences: Options like the selected payment method.
How Drivers Can Get More Ride Requests
To increase the chances of receiving more ride requests, drivers should:
- Remove restrictive filters (e.g., verification filters or payment method restrictions).
- Stay in high-demand areas where more ride requests occur.
- Minimize phone interactions to respond quickly to incoming ride requests.
- Drive safely and follow regulations, adhering to Hitchhyke’s Community Guidelines.
