As a Hitchhyke driver, you play an essential role in ensuring toll costs are accurately included in fares. For regions like Jamaica, Hitchhyke uses a User Input Method for tolls, allowing you to manually enter toll charges, which will sometimes be confirmed by riders. This method provides accuracy and flexibility, particularly in regions without automated toll data.
How the User Input Method Works
Phase 1: Pre-Pickup
- Enter Anticipated Tolls – While en route to the pickup location, manually enter any expected toll fees into the app.
- Automatic Approval – These toll fees are automatically approved and added to the initial fare.
- Rider Notification – The rider receives a notification that toll fees have been added, but no action is required at this stage.
Phase 2: Post-Pickup (During Trip)
- Toll Entry Prompt – At any point during the trip, the you may attempt to enter a toll fee. If none are entered before the you select 'Complete Trip', the app will prompt you to enter any tolls incurred during the trip.

- Enter Additional Tolls – Input the toll amounts if applicable.
- Rider Confirmation – The rider must confirm the added toll fees for them to be included in the final fare.
- Complete the Trip – After tolls are entered and confirmed, complete the trip process.
Example Scenarios:
- If a rider rejects a toll post-pickup, it will not be included in the fare.
- If a rider confirms the toll, the fare will be updated accordingly.
