Trip Code
Hitchhyke uses the Trip Secret Code as an extra layer of security to help Drivers verify Riders before a trip begins. This feature ensures that the correct Rider is getting into the correct vehicle, minimizing risks and confusion.
Riders must provide the correct Trip Secret Code before the ride starts, ensuring they are in the right vehicle. This also prevents drivers from fraudulently starting a trip and billing the Rider without their presence, ensuring they are in the vehicle before the ride begins.
What is the Trip Secret Code?
The Trip Secret Code is a one-time, randomly generated code assigned to each ride request. It is provided to the Rider, who must give the correct code to the Driver before the trip can start. The trip will not begin without the correct code.
How to Use the Trip Secret Code
- Accepting the Ride:
- The Rider receives the Trip Secret Code in their app once a driver is assigned.
- The Driver navigates to the trip's pickup point.
- Arriving at the Pick-Up Location:
- The Driver cannot start the trip until the Rider provides the correct code.
- You may choose to keep your vehicle locked until you confirm the Rider’s identity, but this is at your discretion.
- Verify the Rider's Identity:
- Ask the Rider for their name and confirm any identifying details (e.g., gender, profile picture if available).
- The Rider must provide the Trip Secret Code to the Driver, who enters it into the app.
- If the code is correct, the trip will automatically start—no additional action is required from the Driver.
- Start navigating to the rider's destination.
Why Confirming Identity Matters
Verifying the Rider’s name and secret code is essential for:
- Preventing Fraud: Ensures that a trip cannot be started without the Rider's presence.
- Enhancing Safety: Confirms the correct Rider enters the vehicle, reducing risks.
- Building Trust: Strengthens confidence between Riders and Drivers.
- Compliance: Following this procedure helps maintain platform integrity and adheres to Hitchhyke’s security policies.
