Trusted Contacts

Hitchhyke's Trusted Contacts feature enhances safety by keeping your loved ones informed about your trips. This guide explains how to add and manage Trusted Contacts on your Hitchhyke account.

What Are Trusted Contacts?

Trusted Contacts are individuals—such as family members, friends, or significant others—who you trust to receive real-time updates about your rides. When enabled, Hitchhyke can automatically share your trip details, including your live location, with them.

In case of an emergency, your Trusted Contacts can also receive notifications.

Mandatory for Users Under 18

If you are under 18, you must add Trusted Contacts to your Hitchhyke account. At least one of your Trusted Contacts must be a verified Hitchhyke user who is 18 or older to ensure rider safety.

How to Add Trusted Contacts

You can add up to five Trusted Contacts when creating your account or at any time later. Here's how:

1. Open the Hitchhyke app and go to the main menu.
2. Tap on “Trusted Contacts.”
3. Select “Add Trusted Contact.”
4. Enter the contact’s details:
   • Phone number (must belong to a Hitchhyke user)
   • Relationship to you
5. Choose notification preferences:
   • Emergency Notifications: May receive alerts in an emergency, but functionality is not guaranteed.
   • Share Trip Updates: May receive automatic trip notifications and real-time tracking links, but delivery is not guaranteed.
6. Tap “Save” to confirm.

If the entered phone number does not match an existing Hitchhyke user, an SMS will be sent with a link prompting them to download the app and create an account.

You can update preferences or remove a Trusted Contact at any time from the same menu.
